Most of us know the feeling: staring at the last lip gloss, concealer or lotion clinging to the sides and bottom of some kind of tube or container and wishing we could just get to that last…tiny…bit. The Beauty Smarts Makeup Spatulas from Ulta Beauty are here to save the day. With two spatulas in a set for five bucks, these just might be a beauty lifesaver.

I recently came to the (almost) end of a beloved ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip. It was part of a limited edition Make A Wish collection and is no longer available. This made the fact that there was gloss left at the bottom of the tube that the applicator brush couldn’t reach quite maddening. I could see it and just couldn’t get to it!
So I went to grab a beauty spatula I bought years ago, only to find that the silly triangular shaped tip was too big to fit into the tube, even after I pulled out the plastic stopper from the top. Curses! I started Google searching and found tips for putting the tube in a mug of hot water and then pouring the gloss out into a container. Tried it. Didn’t work. I’m stubborn and now totally determined to find something that will allow me to use the elusive pink gloss left in this tube.
I had seen the Beauty Smarts Makeup Spatulas at Ulta before, back in the section with hair accessories and acrylic organizers. So off I went to give them a go. Turns out it was the best $5 I’ve spent in a while.
These spatulas are about 7 inches long and have a slim, black handle that’s the same width all the way down to the pink silicone tip, which means they can easily reach the bottom of the tubes and containers I have. One spatula has a larger scoop tip, which is great for getting creams from under the lip of cosmetic jars and scooping out the last bit of lotion from a tube.
My advice: when you think you’re almost out of a product in a squeezy-tube type of package, cut the top of the tube off and use the spatula to get all the product from the sides and corners. There can be days or even weeks of perfectly usable product left in a tube that you thought was totally empty!
The spatula with the grooved, flexible tip is the best. It’s very narrow, allowing it to get into small areas where product lingers, and the tip is bendy enough to really hug the edges. The groove on the spatula will collect the product that is scraped out and voila! I was able to use this to clear out my ColourPop gloss and transfer the leftovers into a small glass pot so I could use the rest like a lip balm.
I think these are the best designed and most versatile of any of the beauty spatulas I’ve come across, and cleaning them is a breeze. I just wash with soap and water and use a little alcohol prep pad (like the ones you clean your phone screen with) to disinfect for good measure.
No more infuriating, unattainable gloss at the bottom of the tube driving me nuts, and no more wasted product. Instead, with just a little effort I can get every drop out of my containers with these simple tools. And this makes me very, very happy.
