KBeauty is all the rage right now and Purlisse’s Perfect Glow BB Cream is no exception. They’ve been featured in Vogue and Marie Claire, and included in ipsy bags across the country. This beauty balm is full of skin-loving ingredients like gogi, hawthorne and jasmine, and comes in 8 shades. It has the SPF benefits of a sunscreen, smooth texture of a moisturizer and lightweight coverage of a foundation. “Beauty through Asian wisdom” as the brand claims, but can it correct as much as it protects?

I’ve been looking for a a BB cream alternative to foundation for a while, something to swipe on for low maintenance days or summer adventures. Also, I’ve started to notice a couple of sun spots after years of Southern California sun worshiping so I figure better late than never to include some sunscreen.
Fortunately, Perfect Glow (I use the shade Medium) doesn’t leave a white cast at all nor did it break me out like most sunscreens. It’s actually so hydrating that I didn’t need a product under it to prep my skin at all (yay for skipping a step). It does have a glow/sheen but doesn’t feel greasy or tacky and doesn’t need to be set with anything. As it is a BB cream, the coverage is light, so I found I still needed concealer under my eyes and to cover some redness around my nose… but honestly I’d have done that with a regular foundation anyway. This wore well, didn’t crease or rub off and other products (blush, bronzer, etc) layered just fine on top of it.

The best part about this balm is that it’s almost an exact dupe in terms of both shade and finish for my beloved Laura Mercier Silk Crème Moisturizing Photo Edition Foundation in shade 2N2 Beige Ivory; so much so that I was able to apply the BB cream all over my face and then use just a little LM foundation around the center where I need extra color-correction, and they blend seamlessly.
