HERBIVORE Emerald Hemp Seed Deep Moisture Glow Oil

October 31, 2019

Designed with dry, acne prone skin in mind, the HERBIVORE Emerald Hemp Seed Deep Moisture Glow Oil claims to be deeply moisturizing, skin-soothing and stress defending- all while being quick absorbing. Dry+oily skin can be tricky. While I consider my dry skin to be more sensitive than acne-prone, I have had mixed experiences with oils (sometimes they cause it to become acne-prone). If this Emerald Glow Oil actually penetrates without the grease, that would be worth the 4+ hours of minimum-wage work for this little bottle.

Truthfully, I ordered this by mistake, I’m not yet on the cannabis-for-every-ailment bandwagon. Have you seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Do you remember the dad spraying Windex on everything? That’s how I feel about this movement. I almost returned it but my youngest sister really loves it, says it moisturizes and “really helps diminish redness” so I figured I’d give it a try. Unfortunately we must have very different skin because it did nothing of the sort for me (I ended up giving it to her).

It did give my skin the most gorgeous glow and while it didn’t absorb for quite some time, when it did I was still left with supple-looking skin. Sadly, the next day I woke up with tiny bumps all over my face (probably clogged pores) and over the course of a few days a few small acne spots joined the party. I stuffed this in a drawer and vowed never to use it again. Some weeks later I found it while rummaging and amnesia kicked in. Had it really been that bad? The glow WAS nice. Having forgotten I already had a light layer of foundation on from several hours before (#momlife), I rubbed a couple drops between my fingertips and tapped it all over. Just as I remembered I already had makeup on I looked in the mirror to surprisingly discover the Emerald Oil had simply settled nicely on top, not smeared everything around. Again though, over the next few days my skin raged in protest.

Additionally this has a slightly earthy aroma, which didn’t appeal to me. It might just be my sensitive skin but I couldn’t figure out a way to make even the smallest amount of this work for me. It’s a shame too because the non-sticky, supple-looking glow it affords was pretty special. Now taking recommendations for comparable alternatives!

Lea’s Verdict: Pass for me but could be awesome for you. Try a sample.
