ColourPop BFF Liquid Liner

October 16, 2020

BFF Liquid Liner is ColourPop’s first ever precision felt tip liquid eyeliner pen. For only $8, this highly pigmented liner claims to glide on effortlessly and stick with you through thick and thin- as any BFF should. ColourPop’s website really ran with the BFF analogy for this liner, stating “she’ll build you up and won’t let you down.” After trying it, I guess my new BFF is an eyeliner pen (sorry Liz).

Admittedly, I took a while to get on the ColourPop bandwagon. I couldn’t fathom products with such low price points could come close to the quality of luxury makeup. This is one instance I’m so happy to be wrong. ColourPop’s BFF Liquid Liner in shade Numero Uno (black) out-performed every liquid liner pen in my arsenal. It’s more pigmented and waterproof than KVD Vegan Beauty Tattoo Eyeliner, the tip is more fine than Lancome’s Artliner and it doesn’t over-apply like the Artliner either.

ColourPop BFF Liquid Liner comes to the perfect point with just enough stiffness to make application a breeze. As if this wasn’t enough, I seriously struggled to remove it (in a good way!). I have allergies, so my eyes tear at the outer corners and this liner didn’t budge. I rubbed at the swatch on my arm with soap and water and that barely made a dent (see picture below). I finally used Clinique’s Take The Day Off (my all-time favorite eye makeup remover) and was able to get it off with a q-tip. As a busy (lazy) working mom, I don’t hate that there’s a little of this left the next day still defining my lash line.

I should mention that though I only bought and tested the ColourPop BFF Liquid Liner in black, this felt tip liner comes in eight shades ranging from canary yellow and bright bubblegum pink to a gorgeous muted emerald green and deep sapphire. I read a few other reviews and some people say the lighter, brighter colors can be streaky and may need to be built up. I did not, however, have this experience with the black at all. I like this liner so much I actually just bought and sent it to both my niece and sister. For $8, what do you have to lose?

A few tips…I would recommend shaking this pen first to ensure even application. And start lightly, you can always add more pressure for a thicker line later. Lastly, wait for any cream products you’ve applied to dry first. If you try to apply over a tacky concealer, the felt tip will clog and forever be ruined. I find this to be true of any brand so no points deducted for operator error there.

Lea’s Verdict: Buy it! The felt tip’s stiffness and fine point make it incredibly versatile and the waterproof formula actually delivers.
